Kevin P. Smidt, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction of the hip and knee with a focus on minimally invasive techniques and the muscle-sparing anterior hip replacement. He is a Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted specialist in total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Smidt earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology at The Ohio State University, where he was a Division I Scholar Athlete. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, then went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency from Louisiana State University Health in Shreveport. While there, Dr. Smidt received several honors including the Chairman’s Awards for the highest Orthopedic In-Training Examination score and Most Outstanding Resident, AAOS Resident of the Month, and The Dr. David and Sharon Waddell Award for Orthopaedic Resident Excellence.
During his time at LSU Health, he served on a multidisciplinary tumor board representing the orthopaedic oncology division; and was team leader and creator of the LSU Health “Joints Camp” program, a preoperative education class for patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty.
Following residency, he completed an Adult Reconstruction fellowship at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables before returning to Columbus to start professional practice with Orthopedic ONE.
Dr. Smidt enjoys being an active participant in both his medical, professional and personal communities.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and a peer reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty. He has also presented his research works throughout the years at each of these national organizational annual meetings.
In his free time, you can find him cooking for his family, watching college football or participating in some of his favorite activities, such as snow skiing, yoga, cycling, weightlifting or golfing. Most importantly, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Amanda, exploring new adventures and giving back to the community.
