Dr. Nawas grew up a competitive swimmer and soccer player and attended Parkway South High school in St Louis county. He is a graduate of the accelerated combined BA-MD program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, where he was selected for membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency training at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA followed by a fellowship at the Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute (now the Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute).
Fellowship training provided exposure to a wide array of sports related injuries and surgery in addition to extensive experience in cartilage restoration, knee realignment, and hip preservation surgery. Dr. Nawas served as an assistant team physician for the New Orleans Saints of the NFL and the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA while also providing care for Loyola University New Orleans and Southern University at New Orleans basketball teams. He also evaluated draft prospects at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
In St. Louis, Dr. Nawas has served as a team physician or provided medical care for numerous professional and collegiate organizations including the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis FC, St. Louis Ambush, Lindenwood University, Division 1 NCAA Men’s basketball tournament, and the Missouri Valley Conference basketball tournament. He has provided high school football sideline coverage in St. Louis for over 10 years, with the unique opportunity and privilege to care for the Patriots of his alma mater as well as the Wildcats of Westminster Christian Academy.
Dr. Nawas proudly offers a comprehensive sports medicine practice, having performed thousands of joint repair and reconstruction procedures for treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle conditions. He is one of the most experienced hip arthroscopists in the state of Missouri and Southern Illinois and has performed hip preservation surgery on professional, collegiate, and high school athletes.
Dr. Nawas prides himself on being approachable and strives to ensure that every one of his patients has a clear understanding of their condition and their treatment options. He firmly believes in trialing conservative treatment when appropriate before resorting to surgery. His wife is a physician as well and they have two wonderful young boys who are swimmers and soccer players. He enjoys traveling, personal fitness, and watching and playing sports. He is an auto enthusiast and is a member of a local car club.
