Dr. Gregory Sirounian joined Winthrop Orthopaedic Associates in 2012. Before coming to Long Island, Dr. Sirounian practiced orthopedic surgery in the Phoenix, Arizona area for ten years, specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction and adult fracture care. While in Arizona, he co-founded the Orthopedic Division of Integrated Medical Services–one of the state’s largest physician organizations–and helped develop orthopedic surgery programs at two new hospitals, in underserved communities. At Winthrop, Dr. Sirounian continues to specialize the management of adult hip and knee arthritis, including operative and non-operative treatment options. He also performs and teaches techniques in adult hip and knee replacement and revision surgery, including anterior – approach hip replacement. In 2014, Dr. Sirounian was appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopedics at the Stony Brook School of Medicine, working with orthopedic resident physicians, medical students, and physician assistant students, from several local training programs. He also participates in multiple research projects through the Winthrop University Hospital Department of Orthopedics, including current studies in computer-assisted knee replacement and blood preservation during joint reconstructive surgery. Dr. Sirounian maintains a strong commitment to patient- and family-centered care, patient safety, and community education. He serves as the Assistant Director of the Joint Replacement service at Winthrop University Hospital, where in 2014, he helped initiate the Patient and Family Centered Care Program. The program was initially developed for joint replacement patients but is now spreading to multiple other departments throughout the hospital. He also lectures at local community centers about orthopedic management of hip and knee arthritis. As an advocate for patient safety, Dr. Sirounian works closely with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Since 2012, he has served on the AAOS Patient Safety Committee, helping educate health care providers and consumers nationally about enhancing the safety and quality of orthopedic care.
