Kirk H. Johnson, M.D., is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon, specializing in total joint replacement surgery.
Most recently, Dr. Johnson served as an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Center where he also served as chief of the Total Joint Replacement Center from 2000 to 2004. He also practiced at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts.
He has extensive experience in orthopedic research and is the author of numerous publications and national presentations. He serves as a scientific advisor and an inaugural board member with GLORY, the Global Orthopaedic Registry, which is a multinational, observational database of patient outcomes for those who have elective, primary hip and/or knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont.
He completed an internship and residency in general surgery at the Harvard Surgical Service as well as a combined orthopaedic residency. He was appointed as chief of the East Orthopaedic Service at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed a clinical fellowship in sports medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Johnson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Johnson is on the active medical staff at Hilton Head Hospital and courtesy staff at Coastal Carolina Hospital.
