Dr. Mercuri was born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He attended Scranton Preparatory School where he graduated in the top of his class and excelled as a PIAA All-State runner. He then graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Scranton after completing the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts program and garnering NCAA Academic All-American honors. He next received his medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine and was induced into the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. While in medical school, he simultaneously earned a Master’s of Arts in Bioethics from New York University.
Following medical school, Dr. Mercuri underwent extensive training in orthopaedic surgery. He completed his residency at NYU Langone Health’s prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases, consistently ranked as one of the top orthopaedic institutes in the country. He then chose to stay at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital to undergo additional fellowship training in adult reconstructive surgery with the renowned surgeons of the Insall Scott Kelly Institute. He is well published in both orthopaedics and bioethics with multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and national presentations.
