Dr. Kant started KSF Orthopaedic Center in 1976 to bring high-quality orthopaedic care to the residents of North Houston and the Woodlands areas. He has been in private practice in the same area for 35 years. “I always wanted to be a physician,” Dr. Kant says, “I chose orthopaedics because you get to work with people of all ages from newborns to seniors. I get to treat the entire body, and sometimes the entire family. I get a chance to watch my patients grow up. It is always rewarding to treat a former patient’s son or daughter.”
Dr. Kant likes the fact that orthopaedic patients generally get well. “We can usually fix what’s wrong,” he says.
“I cannot tell you the number of times a former patient comes up to me in a restaurant or grocery store and says, ‘I can walk without pain or I can play basketball with my daughter.’ It is very gratifying to know I have had a part in those kinds of results.”
“Orthopaedics delivers a high level of satisfaction, and it’s an ever changing field. Eighty percent of the things I do today weren’t available when I left my training program. For example, when I came into practice, arthroscopy virtually didn’t exist. I learned arthroscopic surgery by traveling to other areas of the country when it was just beginning in 1976. We were one of the first orthopaedic groups in Houston to use arthroscopy.”
Dr. Kant and his wife live in Houston and have three children. In his leisure time, Dr. Kant likes to play golf, fish, ski, and scuba dive.
