Dr. David Heath received his undergraduate B.S. degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at California State University. He received an M.S. degree in Health Sciences and then a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Barry University in Miami Shores Florida in 2002. Dr. Heath completed his first year of residency PPMR at Plantation General Hospital in Plantation Florida. At Plantation General he rotated through multiple medical specialties, covered orthopedic and podiatric cases, and took foot and ankle call in the adult and pediatric emergency rooms. The second year of residency PSR-12 was at the Medpremises Surgery Center and VA LaJolla/SanDiego, California. In San Diego, Dr. Heath rotated through more specialties including vascular surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, and anesthesiology. He also focused on surgery of the forefoot and diabetic limb salvage. His third and fourth years of residency were completed at Mercy Hospital PM&S-36 in Miami Florida. There his focus was on surgeries of the rearfoot and ankle including internal and external fixation techniques. Dr. Heath went on multiple mission trips to the Baja Crippled Children Project and Yucatan Project in Mexico and participated in many procedures concerning congenital deformities not commonly seen in the U.S such as pediatric and adult clubfoot corrections. In addition, Dr. Heath completed a Mini-Fellowship in Kurgan Russia at the Ilizarov Institute studying external fixation devices. Since residency, Dr. Heath has spent over 15 years in private practice in Cooper City Florida including 11 years working in the Wound Healing Center at Memorial Pembroke Hospital in Pembroke Pines Florida. He is on staff at Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Hospital West, Memorial Hospital Pembroke, Memorial Miramar, Memorial South as well as Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. His expertise is in foot and ankle trauma / fracture surgery as well as healing of difficult wounds including venous and diabetic foot or leg ulcers. Dr. Heath’s passion is for traumatic and diabetic limb salvage. He often takes on cases that have been determined loss causes by other surgeons and successfully prevents lower leg amputations. He is board certified in foot surgery and board certified in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. When not in surgery David can often be found with his wife Lily and 3 children Matthew, Christian and Brianna ages 15, 12, and 6 at Walt Disney World or out coaching his son’s baseball teams. He has volunteered in the Audio-Visual team at Christ The Rock Community Church in Cooper City for over 15 years.
