Dr. Matthew Gotlin is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. His clinical focus is the operative and non-operative treatment of athletes of all ages and skill levels. In addition to athletes, he cares for patients who are looking to remain active and healthy. He is trained in advanced arthroscopy, complex reconstruction, and cartilage restoration procedures of the hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow. He also performs joint replacements for arthritis of the hip, knee, and shoulder. In addition, Dr. Gotlin treats fractures of both the upper and lower extremities.
Dr. Gotlin is a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Penn State University’s Eberly College of Science. He completed medical school at the Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society, recipient of the Stony Brook School of Medicine Academic Merit Award, and recipient of the overall Clinical Excellence award. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the prestigious NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital in New York City. He was the recipient of the 2019 Herodicus Award for Best Resident Paper at the AOSSM annual meeting. During his final year of residency, he was selected and served as Executive Chief Resident. After residency, Dr. Gotlin completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
He is currently serving as the team physician for the Harlem Wizards men’s professional basketball team and has served as the assistant team physician for the NFL’s New York Jets, the NFL scouting combine, and the National Women’s Hockey League’s Metropolitan Riveters. In addition to his extensive professional and collegiate sports medicine experience, Dr. Gotlin has also cared for high school and adolescent athletes and provided medical care for the NYC Marathon as well as to the dancers of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Additionally, Dr. Gotlin has published numerous book chapters and scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
