Dr. Peter Gold is one of Panorama’s specialists in adult hip and knee arthritis and joint replacement surgery. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors from Tulane University, and followed in his father’s footsteps with a degree from Tulane Medical School.
As a third-generation physician, Dr. Gold always knew he wanted to pursue medicine. His father, Dr. Robert Gold, has been practicing pediatric ophthalmology for over 35 years. His grandfather, Dr. Jerome Gold, was an infectious disease doctor who, among many other accomplishments, helped develop the most common antibiotic used in orthopaedic surgery, Ancef, named for his wife, Anne.
After medical school, Dr. Gold completed orthopaedic residency at NorthShore-LIJ in New York, where he received the Leslie Sgaglione Humanism and Jodi Fisher Excellence in Research Awards. To date, he has 34 peer-reviewed publications and 81 podium or poster presentations.
Following residency, Dr. Gold completed fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a young leader in the field, he serves on various committees within The American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the Young Arthroplasty Group (YAG). He additionally represents hip and knee surgeons to US policy-makers as an AAHKS Health Policy Fellow.
Dr. Gold’s guiding philosophy is to deeply listen to his patients, understand what drives their quality of life and educate his patients and their families in order to make the best shared decision on their care.
In 2015, Dr. Gold was shot in the abdomen while stopping a man from kidnapping a woman on the streets of New Orleans. “Having survived a near-death experience and becoming a patient myself completely changed the type of doctor I am today,” he says. “I understand how scary it can be to be a patient. I believe it is an important part of a surgeon’s job to relieve this fear and give their patients confidence based in knowledge.”
In addition to informing his approach to patient care, Dr. Gold’s first-hand experience with gun violence inspired him to co-found and run Strong City, a non-profit that, since 2017, has provided resources to community-based organizations in New Orleans to empower underserved youth.
Dr. Gold enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, snowboarding, yoga, traveling, and listening to live music.
He will be seeing patients at our Golden location.
