Dr. Van Stamos is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacements, including revision surgery. When medically appropriate, he offers knee arthroscopy and other minimally invasive surgical techniques, which help minimize complications and reduce patient recovery times.
Dr. Stamos became a doctor out of a desire to help people and chose to specialize in orthopedics because it allows him to make use of his mechanical aptitude. He strives to understand each patient’s problem thoroughly and provide a smooth, seamless care experience.
He keeps informed of the latest developments in his field through his work teaching orthopedic surgery residents as a Senior Clinician Educator at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and teaching fellow surgeons on behalf of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and medical implant companies. Dr. Stamos has conducted clinical research in multiple areas including examining surgical outcomes related to implant positioning. He has been involved in the development of surgical instruments and programs used in computer-assisted surgery.
Dr. Stamos enjoys skiing and cycling, which give him an added appreciation of the importance of healthy joints and helps fuel his determination to improve his patients’ conditions.
