Melissa M. Galli, DPM, MHA is a board qualified and dual fellowship-trained reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon specializing in sports medicine, external (frame) fixation, trauma, total ankle replacement and reconstruction of the forefoot, hindfoot and ankle. She is certified in various total ankle replacement systems.
Dr. Galli completed her fellowship at Coordinated Health in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she received comprehensive reconstructive training, including primary and revision ankle joint replacement. In addition, she studied abroad for a 5-week international external fixation fellowship in limb deformity correction with Dr. Alexander Kirienko in Milan, Italy. Prior to obtaining her fellowship training, Dr. Galli completed her podiatric surgical residency in the Department of Orthopedics at Wexner Medical Center. During her residency, Dr. Galli received extensive training in orthopedic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, emergency and internal medicines, infectious disease, diabetic limb salvage and endocrinology. Her medical involvement extended into the community where she served on a local diabetes organization’s Medical Board allowing diabetic children the access to a summer camp experience. In addition, she assisted in the founding of their Young Professionals’ Board, YPGluco.
Dr. Galli received her medical degree from Des Moines University’s College of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery and simultaneously completed her Master of Health Care Administration from the College of Health Sciences. Her medical business knowledge was utilized by Chicagoland’s Advocate health system during an internship. After election as Class President by her medical colleagues, her leadership skills were rendered on the IPMSA Executive Council and Des Moines University’s Council of Presidents. Dr. Galli obtained her Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University graduating cum laude and with honors with distinction. During her undergraduate schooling, she received numerous research grants to study the implications of environmental and public health policies as it pertained to diseases harbored in large African mammals.
Dr. Galli continually challenges her knowledge base through research and collaboration. She continues to educated patients through research and advanced her profession by means of publications and lecturing. She is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), Arizona Podiatric Medical Association (AzPMA) and is an ongoing trauma section editor for its Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Galli believes in educating and empowering the next generation and serves as a Miami University Class Agent encouraging educational endowments.
