Dr. Craig Capeci is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases. He is a Board Certified specialist in the orthopedic care of sports related injuries as well as arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, he attended Hunter High School in Manhattan. Dr. Capeci graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science as a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honor Society with multiple undergraduate honors. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine where he was awarded an Excellence in Musculoskeletal Research award and elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
Craig M. Capeci MD
Dr. Capeci completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases. While in residency he received an Orthopedic Research Education Foundation grant, was the program’s resident liaison for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and received specialized training in orthopedic trauma and fracture surgery at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD. During his final year of residency he was chosen as an Executive Chief Resident. He then completed his sports medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital, the nation’s first sports medicine fellowship founded by James A. Nicholas, MD a pioneer and father of the field of Sports Medicine. During his fellowship he participated in the orthopedic care of the New York Jets football team, New York Islanders hockey club and Hunter College Athletics.
Dr. Capeci has published multiple articles and presented at grand rounds and research meetings on topics including hip fractures, cartilage injuries of the knee, shoulder instability and posterior cruciate ligament deficiency. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of America and New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, computers & technology, playing golf & basketball and following collegiate and professional sports.
