Dr. Thomas’ devotes his practice to being patient centered with an individualized approach to care and believes that his quality of education, training, and experience make a difference in patient outcomes. He offers a conservative and thorough approach to treatment, and if surgery is necessary, he will perform this masterfully. Dr. Thomas looks forward to continuing to advance evidence-based practices in foot and ankle care on a national scale with his colleagues at OFAC.
Dr. Thomas’ is considered an innovator and leader in the field of minimal invasive bunion surgery. As a high volume bunion surgeon, patients have travelled from as far as Alaska to have him perform bunion surgery. Many physicians and healthcare workers have trusted Dr. Thomas for their bunion repair. His latest techniques allow patients to get back on their feet quicker while having less pain, less risk of recurrence, and minimal scars.
As a well-known surgeon, Dr. Thomas has authored peer reviewed journal articles, texts, quoted in magazines and online articles, medical posters, blogs, and numerous television interviews. He has also lectured locally and nationally not only for foot and ankle podiatrists and orthopedists, but for physicians from all disciplines. Dr. Thomas has trained foot and ankle residents who have gone onto practice throughout the United States and even as far away as Australia. Most recently, Dr Thomas is involved in training family practice residents here in Columbus on foot and ankle treatment in the primary care setting.
Dr. Thomas is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and has enjoyed living in Central Ohio since 2011. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of New England where he was a college athlete, captain of the men’s varsity basketball team his senior season, and graduated cum laude. He then received his medical education from the Barry University in Miami, Florida, where he was a member of the Dean’s List. Dr. Thomas then completed a high-volume foot and ankle surgery residency training at Grant Medical Center with numerous Podiatrist and Orthopedist, even working with current and past OFAC surgeons.
After residency graduation he took on the role of the assistant director for OhioHealth’s foot and ankle surgery residency program. Dr. Thomas has held leadership positions in the past such as the chair of surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Dr. Thomas was previously the foot and ankle appointee for surgery peer review committee for OhioHealth. Dr. Thomas is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, holding the prestigious double board certification in Foot as well as Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery.
Dr. Thomas is involved with many philanthropic efforts, particularly those related to underserved medical populations and our nations veterans. Dr. Thomas resides in Central Ohio with his wife, who is an Internal Medicine Physician, and two children. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, coaching youth basketball, and outdoor activities.
