Meet Brandon Kelly, M.D.
For hip and knee surgeon and total joint replacement specialist Brandon Kelly, M.D., working at Summit Orthopedics is a sort of homecoming. A Minnesota native, Dr. Kelly worked as a research coordinator at Summit Orthopedics and spent time traveling to Honduras with Peter Daly, M.D., and the One World Surgery team regularly during his two years between undergraduate studies and medical school. Now, he is delighted to be returning as a surgeon.
Dr. Brandon Kelly’s background
His focus is treating hip and knee arthritis, and he specializes in performing primary and revision hip and knee replacements. “What I love most about this work is that I can help make people significantly better. Taking people who struggle to walk around the block and returning them to their favorite hiking trail a year later is a great feeling,” Dr. Kelly said.
Dr. Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree with distinction at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He then completed his medical education and residency training in orthopedics at the University of Minnesota, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the renowned University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Brandon Kelly’s practice philosophy
The most important elements of Dr. Kelly’s practice philosophy are communication and honesty. “When I meet patients for the first time, I try to understand what each patient values, what motivates them to see me, and how those are connected. As a hip and knee replacement surgeon, I typically focus on diagnosing and treating patients’ hip or knee pain, but by understanding patients’ expectations better, I can then better explain what is going on with their joint and how the treatments I may offer can meet their expectations,” he said.
For Dr. Kelly, there is no shortcut when it comes to building a relationship with his patients. “I like to spend a lot of time with my patients, finding out what they like to do and what has brought them to me,” he noted. He hopes his patients find him compassionate, caring, available, and empathetic.
