Kalain Workman, DO is a board certified Surgeon with TPMG Orthopedics in Newport News, Gloucester, and Williamsburg. He earned his Bachelor of Science: Biology and Economics from Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Furthering his education, he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. Afterwards, he went on to complete his surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dr. Workman also completed a dedicated fellowship focused on Adult Reconstruction at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida.
Beginning his journey into orthopedic surgery in his late teens, Dr. Workman’s curiosity for sports medicine and physiology started with high school sports. As a soccer player, he unfortunately grew familiar with sports-related injuries and became fascinated with how orthopedic providers could restore function in injured or debilitated patients. After shadowing various orthopedic surgeons in his local community, Dr. Workman’s new interests prompted him to study biology and premedical sciences. His experience in medicine continued when he helped provide relief in the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating earthquake in 2010. His summer internships also offered a broad understanding of various medical fields. Through these experiences, it became clear that orthopedic surgery was the right fit for him. During his surgical training he developed a deep passion for joint replacement surgery and helping his patients restore their quality of life. As a joint replacement specialist, Dr. Workman helps patients suffering from degenerative joint disease regain function, alignment, and improve range of motion.
As a strong proponent of patient-centered orthopedic care, Dr. Workman listens to each patient’s unique needs and health goals to formulate a cohesive treatment plan. He strives to form bonds of trust with his patients and ensure successful clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. He believes surgery should be a shared decision-making process, weighing all possible treatment options before determining what is best for the patient and their family.
Dr. Workman treats patients 18 years and older for a variety of joint-related conditions including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, and fractures. He has a particular focus on osteoarthritis of the hip and knee.
