Dr. Jonathan Isbell is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and joint replacement, including the treatment of acute and overuse injuries in adolescents and adults. He joined Southlake in 2022 and is dedicated to working with each of his patients to develop a personalized care plan that gets them back to enjoying the activities they love.
A native of Fort Payne, Alabama, he attended Auburn University where he was a member of the football program from 2004-2007 and graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical science. He earned his medical degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, graduating cum laude (top 10% of graduating class). While there, he was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following medical school, Dr. Isbell completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. During residency, he received awards for his research in orthopaedics and served as team physician for several local high schools.
Following residency, Dr. Isbell received additional specialized training completing a sports medicine/shoulder and elbow fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina where he trained with some of the top surgeons in the country. During his fellowship, he served as a team doctor for the Carolina Panthers (NFL), the NFL Scouting Combine, the Charlotte Knights (Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), Charlotte Football Club (MLS), the Charlotte Hounds (Major League Lacrosse), The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Davidson College, and Queens University as well as for a number of high school teams.
Dr. Isbell is an expert in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. He is one of only a few surgeons in Alabama to offer hip arthroscopy, which involves the treatment of conditions of the hip joint through minimally invasive techniques. He also specializes joint replacement as well as joint preservation surgeries of the knee, including cartilage restoration and ligament reconstruction.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Isbell enjoys grilling, coaching his children in youth sports, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Isbell is available to see patients at both our Grandview and Valleydale office locations.
