Dr. Colin Mizuo is a board-certified podiatric surgeon specializing in sports medicine, trauma, arthroscopy, and complex forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction. Born on Yokota Air Base in Japan and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Mizuo combines his military background and extensive training to provide personalized, evidence-based care for his patients.
Education and Training
Dr. Mizuo earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Texas and his Doctorate from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois. He completed a comprehensive three-year residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level 1 trauma center in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief resident. Following his residency, Dr. Mizuo commissioned into the United States Navy and served at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During his time in the Navy, he treated active duty and civilian populations, emphasizing sports medicine, arthroscopy, trauma care, minimally invasive procedures, and complex reconstructive surgeries. He also gained advanced training in Charcot reconstruction and diabetic limb salvage at Georgetown University Hospital, one of the nation’s premier facilities for podiatric surgery.
Professional Achievements
First MACI Procedure: Dr. Mizuo performed the first Matrix Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) procedure in the ankle at a U.S. military hospital.
Publications: Authored multiple works focusing on cartilage regeneration, sports medicine, and minimally invasive bunion procedures for high-demand populations.
Awards: Received numerous distinguished awards during his military service.
Board Certification: Certified in forefoot and rearfoot/ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
