Originally from Minnesota and born at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Dr. Arntson earned his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and medical degree from Des Moines University. He then went on to complete his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at St. John Health System with Michigan State University. During residency he was selected as chief resident and awarded orthopedic surgery resident of the year.
After residency, he spent an additional 12 months of subspecialized training in Total Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine surgery. He completed a fellowship at Triangle Orthopedic Associates in Durham, North Carolina. During this time he learned advanced techniques in Anterior Hip and Knee Replacements, including Revision Joint Replacements. In addition, Dr. Arntson received training in Sports Medicine procedures including Shoulder Replacement, Arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction.
Dr. Arntson is board certified with the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Arntson has published a research article titled “Topical vs. Intravenous Tranexamic Acid Use in Total Knee Arthroplasty,” which was presented at the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction Conference.
Dr. Arntson’s approach to patient care focuses on the individual needs of each patient. His specialized training, along with his general orthopedic knowledge, allows him to assess the best non-operative and operative options for each patient’s condition. Dr. Arntson has a strong interest in minimally invasive and muscle-sparing procedures coupled with multi-modal pain management protocols to decrease patient’s pain and speed recovery. He also focuses on hip and knee replacement with robotic surgery.
Dr. Arntson is married and resides in St. Paul with his wife and three daughters. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.
