Dr. Chin is a Double Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He is an expert in treating all hip, knee, and shoulder injuries and disorders. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive joint preservation techniques for hip, knee, and shoulder injuries, complex ligament and meniscus tears, rotator cuff tears, cartilage repair and restoration procedures, state of the art shoulder replacements, and robotic-assisted partial knee and total knee replacements. Dr. Chin is a native Texan and former Academic All-American collegiate tennis player. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Colorado State University in Pueblo where he was a Presidential Scholar and NCAA Academic All-American. Dr. Chin went on to complete a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Texas at Dallas where his published research resulted in multiple awards and a coveted National Institute of Health Grant. He continued his education by completing medical school and orthopedic surgery training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
During orthopaedic surgery residency, he received multiple research grants, a distinguished teaching award, and had the privilege to provide care for the Dallas Stars Hockey team, Southern Methodist University athletes, Grand Prairie AirHogs pro-baseball team, and multiple Dallas area high school football teams.
Following residency, Dr. Chin was selected for the prestigious San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship and worked with pioneers and innovators in the fields of knee, shoulder, and hip surgeries. Dr. Chin had the distinction of treating athletes from the San Diego Padres, San Diego State University athletic teams, and other San Diego collegiate and high school athletes.
While in San Diego, Dr. Chin expanded his passion for shoulder injuries and shoulder replacements. In addition to the opportunity to work with elite athletes and their shoulder injuries, Dr. Chin worked with pioneers of minimally invasive shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repairs, shoulder ligament repairs and reconstructions, and shoulder replacements and offers these techniques to his patients when appropriate. Dr. Chin's research in shoulder replacements has been published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Reviews, and has been presented at the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Society.
After training with world experts in knee injuries ranging from ACL tears and meniscus tears to cartilage injury and knee arthritis, Dr. Chin has treated thousands of patients and gained extensive experience treating all knee injuries including knee ligament repair and reconstruction for treatment of ACL, PCL, LCL, MCL, and ALL tears, meniscus repair and transplantation, cartilage repair and reconstruction, knee osteotomy, and osteochondral allograft transplantation.
Furthermore, he obtained additional training with several pioneers in hip preservation and minimally invasive hip arthroscopy including Drs. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Hal Martin in Dallas, Robert Scheinberg in Dallas, and Brian White in Denver.
Since starting his practice, Dr. Chin has become an expert in hip arthroscopy and minimally invasive hip surgery for treatment of hip conditions related to femoroacetabular (hip) impingement, hip labral tears, hip dysplasia, hip instability, hip arthritis, abductor tears, trochanteric bursitis, hamstring tears, avascular necrosis, and snapping hip syndrome. He is a frequent Instructor at the world renown Hip Arthroscopy Courses at the Chicago Headquarters for Orthopaedic Education where he teaches fellow orthopaedic surgeons advanced techniques in hip arthroscopy. In addition, Dr. Chin started the Houston Hip Preservation Society in 2018, a local society dedicated to sharing of ideas between the hip experts in Houston.
Dr. Chin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, International Society for Hip Arthroscopy - The Hip Preservation Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Orthopaedic Research Society. He also is an active manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Research.
Dr. Chin, his wife, and two children enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, and all sports, particularly tennis, swimming and soccer.
