Dr. Michael Montano is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who joins the Mat-Su valley from Connecticut. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and served as a division one starting pitcher for four years as well as team captain during his final year.
After college, Dr. Montano matriculated through the University of Connecticut Medical School and later completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts. During his residency, he assisted in the orthopedic care of the Boston Red Sox AAA affiliate in Pawtucket, RI as well as many of the surrounding college and professional athletes in Worcester, MA. Dr. Montano then went on to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship in Aspen, CO where he studied and learned the latest techniques in minimally invasive arthroscopic shoulder, hip, and knee surgery. He also has experience with robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery. He has been involved in several research projects and has recently written a chapter on Imaging of the Hip in the newly published DeLee and Drez’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine textbook. When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Montano enjoys biking, hiking, skiing, and fishing in the great outdoors here in Alaska. He and his fiancé, Katie Sullivan, live in Palmer with their two dogs, Gunther and Rosie
