Dr. Bayer was born and raised in Lowell, Indiana. She is a member of the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame. After high school she attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania where she was a member of their Division I basketball team for 4 years and is still the current record holder in several categories. During a basketball game her senior year against West Point Military Academy she broke her ankle, the fracture required surgery. Her experience during this time inspired her pursuit of a career in orthopedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Bayer graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Dr. Bayer attended Indiana University School of Medicine where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Society and graduated with honors. She completed her orthopedic residency at the University of Michigan where gained experience as an assistant team doctor for the Eastern Michigan University football team and the University of Michigan hockey and football teams. Dr. Bayer completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where she provided care to the Division I athletes in numerous sports, including: football, basketball, wrestling, swimming, soccer, and crew.
Dr. Bayer is fellowship trained in sports medicine with specialization in arthroscopic procedures of the knee and the shoulder. Dr. Bayer also has a special interest in knee and hip joint replacement surgery. Dr. Bayer provides comprehensive orthopedic care for children and adults who sustain fractures as well as accidental, sports related, and chronic injuries. Her goal is to keep all her patients active regardless of age so they can lead a happy and healthy life.
Dr. Bayer’s many hobbies include: cooking, reading, photography and anything sports related. To date she has run two half-marathons and one off-road triathlon. She is a member of St. Matthias Church and helps on their Pastoral Council and Parish Life Committee.
Dr. Bayer has provided medical care for several local high school athletes including the Lowell Red Devils, Lake Central Indians, Crown Point Bulldogs, and Merrillville Pirates.
