Areas of Interest
Dr. Cassidy is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity, and in orthopedic trauma. Having completed dual fellowships in Orthopedic Trauma and Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, he is uniquely poised to address both chronic conditions of the hand, forearm, and elbow—such as arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome—as well as the fractures, tendon lacerations, and crush injuries that come with the active lifestyles of those living in Colorado.
Dr. Cassidy obtained a masters degree in business administration prior to pursuing medical school. The lessons from those years are have set the foundation for his practice of medicine: he believes that “high value care” is when patients receive the best outcomes at the lowest cost. Similarly, his research focuses on improving the quality of care while reducing costs to patients and the health care system. He is experienced in “wide awake surgery” as a method to minimize anesthesia exposure and shorten patients’ recovery time.

More About Dr. Cassidy
Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Cassidy fell in love with the West spending summers fishing in Montana with his father and grandfather. He made his way to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder for his undergraduate studies. After the completion of college, he attended CU’s Leeds School of Business where he focused on entrepreneurship and finance before pursuing medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed residency and a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI, and pursued fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Utah.
Dr. Cassidy joined the Colorado Springs Orthopedic Group in the fall of 2016. He is honored to be joining CSOG, a group of physicians who have mentored him through the years going back to his days as a medical student at the University of Colorado. As his wife, Dr. Heather Matthews Cassidy, is originally from Colorado Springs, Dr. Cassidy has deep roots in our community and is excited to finally “make it back.” Like many of his patients, Dr. Cassidy values his leisure time: he loves to hike, bike, fish, and ski with his wife and two sons.
