Dr. James Bullock is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellowship-trained sub-specialist in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His expertise includes performing arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and hip; complex knee ligament reconstructions, meniscus repairs, and cartilage surgeries; shoulder rotator cuff repairs, instability surgery, and labral repairs. He also performs shoulder, hip, and knee replacements in addition to fracture care.
Dr. Bullock grew up in the Caribbean with a love for many sports, playing soccer, tennis, swimming, and cricket but developed a special passion for the racket sport squash. He represented his country in the latter, winning several national and regional titles and participated in many international competitions. After attending Jamaica's top academic high school he moved to the United States to further his education, attending the nation's best training institutions.
He attended Harvard University and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Honors Biology culminating in an honors thesis on a biomechanics topic. He was also a collegiate athlete playing squash and was a three-time First-team All-American and First-team All-Ivy and was captain of the Men's Squash Team. He attended medical school at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine then went on to do his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Yale New-Haven Hospital/ Yale University School of Medicine. He did sub-specialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, he had the privilege of training under some of the nation's best sports surgeons and world-leading researchers in ACL surgery. He was an assistant team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2013-2014 and also cared for athletes from the Pittsburgh Penguins, other professional athletes, and collegiate and high school athletes.
Dr. Bullock has always had an interest in research, publishing in national journals, and has won research awards in his medical school and residency on orthopaedic topics. He has also contributed book chapters on Orthopaedic sports medicine.
Prior to joining OCSF he practiced in New England for 5 years post-training, with a primary focus on sports medicine but also provided fracture care and performed joint replacement surgery. He continued to care for professional, collegiate, and high school athletes in addition to general orthopaedic care. Dr. Bullock looks forward to providing care for the South Florida community and the neighboring Caribbean region, as well as enjoying all that the area has to offer with his wife and children.
