Dr. Eric Washington, a seasoned orthopedic surgeon, became an integral part of Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists in December 2002, marking the beginning of a distinguished career with the practice. His primary base of operations is the Pascagoula office in Jackson County, and he also serves at the state-of-the-art Bienville Surgery Center located in Gautier/VanCleave, MS.
Prior to joining the Mississippi Gulf Coast medical community, Dr. Washington hailed from St. Louis, Missouri, where he had established himself as a prominent figure in orthopedic surgery. His journey in the field commenced in 1989, and over the years, he garnered extensive experience and expertise.
Dr. Washington’s roots trace back to St. Louis, where he spent his formative years and attended Christian Brothers College JROTC High School. His academic pursuits led him to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, for his undergraduate studies. Subsequently, he pursued his medical education at the University of Illinois in Chicago, laying the foundation for his future endeavors in orthopedic surgery.
His postgraduate training unfolded at the University of Illinois in Chicago, encompassing a comprehensive general surgical internship and orthopedic residency. Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Washington returned to St. Louis, where he not only established a thriving private orthopedic practice but also assumed the role of a part-time assistant professor within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Louis University.
Dr. Washington’s professional focus centers on general orthopedics, with a particular emphasis on hip and knee replacement, arthroscopic surgery, and sports medicine. His commitment to excellence in patient care is further underscored by his continuous involvement in various hospital advisory and functional committees. These include memberships in peer review committees, medical executive committees, orthopedic division chief, chairman of the surgical subspecialty committee, and roles on the trauma committee.
In addition to his contributions within the medical field, Dr. Washington has taken on leadership roles in healthcare administration. He previously served as the Chief of Staff for Singing River Health System, illustrating his dedication to shaping and improving healthcare delivery systems. Furthermore, he lent his expertise as a board member for the Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, showcasing his commitment to community well-being.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Washington is a devoted family man, married with four children. During his leisure time, he indulges in outdoor pursuits, particularly enjoying rounds of golf and spending serene moments on the water. Family remains at the heart of his relaxation, providing him with the balance necessary to navigate the demands of a thriving orthopedic practice.
