Dr. John Lane is a sports medicine specialist with expertise in arthroscopic repair of the shoulder, knee and more recently, the spine. Dr. Lane received his medical degree from Yale University in 1984, where he was the President of his senior class. He also served as the Assistant Coach of the Yale Varsity Baseball Team. From Yale, Dr. Lane went on to the University of Michigan where he completed his internship and residency.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Lane has extensive experience treating both collegiate and professional athletes. He has held positions as Team Physician for the San Diego Gulls, the San Diego Sockers, the Southwestern Junior College Athletic Program and the Women’s Tennis Association Toshiba Tennis Classic held in 1994 in La Costa. Dr. Lane also has personal experience with athletics, having participated in Professional Minor League Baseball and college baseball, basketball, crew and rugby.
Aside from maintaining his private practice, Dr. Lane currently holds a Clinical Instructor position at the University of California, San Diego, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor position at San Diego State University. Dr. Lane also remains an active researcher in the field of the use of the Holmium:Yag laser. He has received grants form the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and the Arthroscopy Association of North America to study the use of the Holmium:Yag laser upon articular cartilage. Dr. Lane has published numerous articles on this topics, as well as articles relating to achilles tendon rupture, ACL injuries and spinal cord trauma.
Dr. Lane has over 27 years of medical experiences, and he has dual certifications by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Board of Sports Medicine.
