Dr. FitzGibbons has been in practice in Boulder County since 1993, after completing his fellowship in sports medicine at the Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis. While in Indiana, Dr. FitzGibbons assisted in the treatment of injuries sustained by team members of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers.
A native of Chicago, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He earned his medical degree at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and completed his internship and orthopedic residency at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Dr. FitzGibbons has concentrated his practice on the care of problems related to the knee and shoulder with a goal of rapidly returning his patients to sporting activities and/or functional activities of daily living. Dr. FitzGibbons also has extensive experience with total knee replacements, along with utilizing the latest technology and surgical techniques in cartilage transplantation.
Dr. FitzGibbons is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has been published in national orthopedic journals. He has been invited to present his findings at national meetings for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Outside of work, he is a dedicated husband and father to three daughters. He is an active participant, spectator and promoter of all sports. In his spare time, Dr. FitzGibbons enjoys skiing, snowboarding, golf and biking. He has volunteered his time as a team physician for the St. Vrain Valley School District for the past 25 years
